A Community of Practice (CoP) is a network of individuals with common problems or interests who get together and explore ways of working to identify common solutions and share good practice and ideas.
C4EO uses the I&DEA (Improvement and Development Agency) Communities of Practice website to support a community based around specific topics.
It is a freely accessible resource that is supported by collaboration tools that encourage knowledge sharing and learning from each others' experiences.
The benefits of CoPs lie in providing a collaborative environment that connects people to other people, information and knowledge. Specifically CoPs can:
- encourage the development and sharing of new ideas and strategies
- support faster problem-solving
- cut down on the duplication of effort
- provide potentially endless access to expertise
The Community of Practice includes the following tools:
- Forum - for having discussions with other members of your community.
- Events - a place for you to share and publish events.
- Library - a collection of items, such as documents, images, slides and other files, shared by community members. Any member of the community can add to the library.
- Other tools include Wikis, blogs, RSS feeds and email alerts.
The Child Poverty CoP is Jointly facilitated by C4EO, the Child Poverty Unit and
the Beacon theme for 'preventing and tackling child poverty', this is an interactive
platform for online problem-solving, peer-support and information sharing for those
working to tackle and prevent child poverty.
