C4EO theme: early years

Early years is the first theme C4EO will be working on as part of its three-year work programme. It will run from July 2008 until March 2010.

Sue Owen, from the National Children’s Bureau, is leading on behalf of the Centre.

As part of the theme, three key priorities are being addressed:

  • Priority 1.1. Improving development outcomes for children through effective practice in integrating early years services.
  • Priority 1.2. Improving children’s attainment through a better quality of family-based support for early learning.
  • Priority 1.3. Narrowing the gap in outcomes for children from the most excluded families through inclusive practice in early years settings.

Scoping studies

The scoping studies were published on 14 November 2008. Their function is to establish the key research questions and search parameters for the later review work, assess the nature and strength of the evidence base and provide an initial overview of trends in the literature.
