C4EO theme: Early Years

Communities of Practice

Introduction

Early Years Communities of Practice website

A Community of Practice (CoP) is a network of individuals with common problems or interests who get together and explore ways of working to identify common solutions and share good practice and ideas.

C4EO uses the I&DEA (Improvement and Development Agency) Communities of Practice website to support a community based around specific topics.

It is a freely accessible resource that is supported by collaboration tools that encourage knowledge sharing and learning from each others' experiences.

The benefits of CoPs lie in providing a collaborative environment that connects people to other people, information and knowledge. Specifically CoPs can:

  • encourage the development and sharing of new ideas and strategies
  • support faster problem-solving
  • cut down on the duplication of effort
  • provide potentially endless access to expertise

The Community of Practice includes the following tools:

  • Forum - for having discussions with other members of your community.
  • Events - a place for you to share and publish events.
  • Library - a collection of items, such as documents, images, slides and other files, shared by community members.  Any member of the community can add to the library.
  • Other tools include Wikis, blogs, RSS feeds and email alerts. (C4EO to decide if they want to use these)

For further help and information view the Communities of Practice FAQs.
