School commissioning arrangements and
early intervention strategies are two of the
latest areas in which the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and
Young People’s Services (C4EO) is urging local authorities and Children’s Trusts
to share their examples of good work which is helping to improve the lives of
children, young people and their families.
Funded by the government to establish what works when it comes to improving
outcomes for children and young people, C4EO is currently reviewing the variety
of knowledge which already exists in formal research and literature and is now
looking to support this with examples of effective practice being delivered in
local areas across the country.
C4EO recognises that not all useful knowledge about ‘what works’ is to be found
in research reports and papers and is therefore keen to hear about practice that
is leading to significantly improved outcomes for children, young people and
their families.
Director of C4EO, Christine Davies CBE said: “While it is important to learn from
what research tells us about how we can improve outcomes for our children and
young people, having real examples of effective practice being delivered on the
ground really helps to bring this to life and demonstrate how the sector is
ideally placed to help itself. We believe that there will be many excellent
examples of work being done which are already delivering positive outcomes for
local children, young people and their families. We want to capture these so
that they can be shared with colleagues across the sector for the benefit of
all.”
The Centre will incorporate validated local practice examples into its full
knowledge reviews on ‘what works’, which will be shared with other
decision-makers in the children’s services field. We will also include them as a
special body of evidence on the C4EO website. To be validated, practice examples
need to be supported by some evidence which shows the outcomes and changes that
have been achieved.
Effective practice examples are being sought across all eight of C4EO’s themes,
but it is particularly keen to receive examples for the following:
These deadlines are for potential inclusion in C4EO’s Knowledge Reviews, but
examples are still welcome after these dates to be shared across the sector.
To submit an example of effective local practice, you need to register for an account on the C4EO website. You will then be able to
log-in and complete the local practice submission form
online.
Alternatively, you can download a copy of the local practice submission form
and email it to C4EOTeam@nfer.ac.uk.

Notes for editors:
The Centre for Excellence and Outcomes (C4EO) is a collaborative
centre which gathers and shares the best knowledge available of ‘what works’ to
contribute to a step change in improving outcomes for children and young people,
especially those who are most vulnerable.
An independent consortium sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and
Families, C4EO was launched in July 2008. It has been developed for the
children’s sector from the children’s sector and works with a consortium of four
core partners who deliver key elements of its programme: NCB, the National
Foundation for Educational Research, Research in Practice and the Social Care
Institute for Excellence. C4EO is neither a regulator nor a field force. For
further information on C4EO, its themes, and the support it provides to Local
Authorities and their Children’s Trust partners visit
