Leadership, vision & embedding is key

Successful interventions do not stand-alone, they are embedded at an organisation-wide level. This requires high quality strategic leadership and a shared vision. Whether in relation to the corporate ownership required to address Child Poverty, or the urgent need for interventions to be integrated into whole-school strategies, the evidence is clear: the most effective approaches are those that are embedded across organisations and are seen to be part of the whole system.

C4EO Research Reviews relevant to this area include:

Disability

Effective early years interventions are part of a wider strategic approach to improve services and the lives of disabled children and young people.

Vulnerable (Looked After) Children

Designated teachers, virtual school heads and managers across children's services are starting to make a difference in embedding awareness about the needs of looked after children, across local areas.

Safeguarding

Effective safeguarding arrangements require monitoring systems with senior level involvement and a ‘learning culture’ in which reflective practice and self-questioning are accepted and actively promoted.

Child Poverty

Child poverty strategies need to have corporate leadership and engage partners across all sectors.

Youth

Alcohol interventions in schools need to be fully integrated in the school culture, not just stand-alone PSHE lessons.
